The Damson Story
The tale of The Damson Collection actually starts way before my time…
It was founded in 2007 by Tom and Margie Chambers the Damson orchard owners. They had developed a beautiful artisan range of condiments that were popular with a passionate group of Damson lovers.
When they decided to turn their attention to other business ventures in 2017 I was fortunate enough to purchase the business. I’d noticed an overseas trend towards flavoured gins and low alcohol beverages and eagerly immersed myself in bringing our Damson Gin Liqueur through NPD (new product development) and to the market with the talented team at Distillerie Deinlein in the Bay of Plenty.
Damson was a finalist in the Best Emerging Business category of the 2018 NZ Export Awards and our artisan condiments and liqueur are continuing to win both local and global awards.
My son Rogan joined the Damson team in 2019 when he finished his B.Com. He bought a fresh perspective to the business. His forte is sales and marketing which has allowed me more time to spend creating new products, export markets and to also work on achieving our sustainability goals including BCorp status.
January 2022 saw our first pallet of “The World’s Best Fruit Liqueur” land in Australia and this is now available throughout Australia from our online store.
We are hoping that 2022 allows us more freedom to connect with other parts of the world and bring the Damson story to a greater global community. If you would like to work with us I’d love to chat.
